Introduction

Power Products consists of three products to find low fare alternatives. These products are Worldspan Power Pricing®, Worldspan Power Shopper®, and Worldspan Power Quote® (applicable to customers in IATA areas Traffic Conference 2 (TC2) and Traffic Conference 3 (TC3). Power Pricing searches for lower fare alternatives in an existing itinerary. Power Shopper performs searches without an itinerary. Each product requires different entries, but produce similar results. There is a monthly fee, per workstation for Power Products.

Power Flight Search

Power Flight Search is a low fare search tool that identifies availability based on fares filed for a given city pair (origin-destination). The process begins with a fares (4F) display entry. Once qualifying fares are displayed, you can select a fare with the Power Flight Search ($P.) function ID. Once a fare has been selected, a Power Flight Search is displayed indicating the available outbound and/or return dates based on the rules from the chosen fare.

The Power Flight Search function displays the first available flights based upon a desired fare within a four day search window for domestic and international trips.

The Power Flight Search display:

  • May have up to ten alternates with no outbound flight duplication in availability.

  • If less than ten alternates are found for the travel dates requested, only those alternates found will display and the processing stops.

  • Once availability is found for the requested dates, the search stops and a Power Flight Search display is returned to the screen.

  • If no availability is found for the originally requested dates, Worldspan progresses forward one day for the outbound/return dates and search. This search will continue up to a maximum of three days forward following the originally requested dates.

  • If availability is found for dates other than those originally requested, an advise line appears on the second line of the Power Flight Search display and reads ** ALTERNATE DATES FOUND **.

  • If no availability is found at this point, a Fare Calendar displays indicating the dates the fare is applicable. The Power Flight Search function identifier is on the first line of the calendar display with a tab stop.

The availability general process is as follows (this applies to city pairs in the U.S. and Canada):

  • Nonstop displays having equal elapsed time.

  • Direct/connection (single and double) with elapsed flying time as the primary consideration.

  • Online connections prior to interline connections in sort levels BSAC, BSAD, BSAM, and BSAN.

City pairs outside the USA and Canada display by the following categories:

  • Nonstop
  • Directs
  • Connections (single and double) with online preference

A maximum of nine passengers and up to four Passenger Type Codes (PTCs) are allowed for one itinerary.

When the new Power Flight Search entry is made from a fares display, Worldspan internally validates all rules for the selected fare/airline. ATPCO categories for seasonality, blackout dates, days of week, routing, flight restrictions, minimum/maximum stay, advance purchase, sales restrictions, travel restriction discounts, and accompanying travel are checked.

Processing Examples

The following is an example of a current Money Saver Fares entry without specifying travel dates.

Entry: 4FMCIATL

If no dates are used, the system defaults to valid fares for the current date.

If you want to look at the fare being offered by Northwest Airlines at $218.00 on line 5, the new Power Flight Search entry must include dates:

$P.5/L12JAN/R19JAN

If dates are specified in the 4F entry (4FMCIATL/L12JAN/R19JAN), simply make the entry $P.1 to display availability for fares on line 1.

If availability is not found for the dates requested but is found on one of the three forward dates, the system will return an alternate display noting alternate dates were found. The alternate in the Power Flight Search display will reflect the dates the fare is available and supply a tab stop for the agent to use to book the flights.

Options applicable to Power Flight Search are leave date and time, return date and time, and the number in party. When the number in party option is included, the amount will reflect the total for all passenger.

An example: $P.4/L12JAN/R19JAN5P#P3

The response is 594.00 USD RT INCL EST TAXES. ADDTL FEES MAY APPLY

SecuRate Air Processing

Entry: 4FMCIATL-DL/L12JAN/R19JAN/*AGRNBR

From the above entry the customer may add .SR to return only SecuRate Air Fares for the agreement number used.

Entry: $P.1#/*AGRNBR.SR

Power Pricing (PP)

Power Pricing is a method of obtaining a lower fare for a booked domestic or international itinerary. When a Power Pricing entry is made, Worldspan determines lower applicable fares for the booked itinerary and offers a rebook option for up to three alternate itineraries. All participating airlines within a 24 hour search are considered.

The following are some Power Pricing guidelines:

  • Up to four (Passenger Type Codes) PTCs and a maximum of 16 segments including ARNK segments, or up to six trips can be processed. Open segment processing is all applicable.

  • PNRs with schedule changes that have not been worked will be processed. If an attempt is made to rebook, the following error message is returned: SKD CHGS - >ENTER< EWR

  • Alternate itineraries are always returned for the same calendar dates as the original booking.

  • Only participating airlines are considered in the availability search. When using 4PLI- and all fares are the same amount, alternates will be returned, based on original departures times and elapsed times in the following order:

      -  Nonstop
      -  Direct
      -  Single connections between the same airlines
      -  Single connections between different airlines
      -  Double connections between the same airlines
      -  Double connections between different airlines
      -  Super sonic service

  • The 4PLID entry only considers nonstop/direct service in the evaluation process. Connecting service and/or change of gauge flights are excluded.

  • Power Pricing defaults to an ADT passenger type code as well as current date and currency of the requesting location, if unspecified.

  • Response time may vary between nine and 15 seconds.

  • Power Pricing utilizes the same automatic seat retention guidelines as 4PLF

  • Options may be appended to the basic Power Pricing entries.

  • Adding the @ key to the Power Pricing basic entry and optional entries ensures Worldspan checks the last seat availability for AccessPlus airlines.

  • The following pacing entry may appear after a Power Pricing entry:

POWER PRODUCT ENTRY IN PROGRESS - PLEASE WAIT

This message advises the user their request for Power Products alternatives in being processed.

  • Power Pricing displays alternate itineraries on international PNRs regardless of the global direction of the original itinerary.

  • World Group® Inventory Records (-W/ in the name field) do not allow Power Pricing entries. If attempted, the response of RESTRICTED appears.

  • If coach class is booked, Power Pricing considers coach, business, and first class for alternate itineraries. If business is booked, business and first class will be considered for alternate itineraries. If first class is booked, only first class will be considered. This logic applies to all basic entries except 4PLIQ. Power Quote considers all compartments regardless of the original compartment.

  • Rebook is not allowed when the entry 4PLIQ is made.

  • Nonstop and direct flights will not be returned when the 4PLIX entry is made.

Power Pricing has many basic entries performing different functions. Below is an explanation of each of these entries.

Guidelines:

1. Availability options may be used with all basic entries.
2. The availability option(s) will not appear in the 4PLFB or 4PLIBn prompt.
3. Availability options narrow the Power Pricing search. However, it is possible that lower fare     itineraries are available, but were excluded by the availability option.

Airline Exclusion Search

The Airline Exclusion Search evaluates lower fare alternate itineraries which exclude the specified airline(s). The option identifier for the Airline Exclusion Search is /XA followed by the airline code(s).

Entry: 4PLI/Xaxx                 Example: 4PLI/XATW

Up to 3 airlines may be excluded (e.g., 4PLI/XAUA-AA-CO). This option may be combined with Preferred Airline search (e.g., 4PLI/XAUA#/ADL). This option is not allowed with Specific Airline search.

Exclude Connection Point Search

The Exclude Connect Point Search evaluates lower fare itinerary alternates which exclude specified connection points. The option identifier for the Exclude Connect Point Search is /XC followed by the connection city code(s).

Entry: 4PLI/XCxxx                Example: 4PLI/XCATL

Up to three connection cities can be excluded (e.g., 4PLI/XCATL-DEN-ORD). If using a city code instead of an airport code, the system will exclude all airports in that city. For example, 4PLI/XCCHI would exclude both Midway and O'Hare airports in Chicago.

Flex Airports

This option is applicable for travel in the 50 United States, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Canada.  For Tier 2 and Tier 3 Power Shopper participants, the Flex Airports option provides the lowest possible itineraries, in a single entry, for:

  • Requesting up to six board points.
  • Requesting up to six off points.
  • Requesting a combination of up to six board points and six off points (total of 12).

Both Power Products and the Flex Airports option must be activated before the Flex Airports option can be used.  When requesting private fares, only those private fares available in e-Pricing are considered. Currently, this includes CAT 15 fares.

Basic and Premium are the two types of responses. Tier 3 participants may use both response types.  The Basic response is available for Tier 2 participants.

The Basic response produces itineraries with either board or off points to all points specified in the entry. One pricing solution per unique board/off combination. The Premium response produces itineraries with either board or off points to all points specified in the entry. Up to 100 pricing solutions, including at least one solution for each unique board/off combination. Open Jaw solutions are not created.

When a requested city has multiple serving airports (e.g., CHI or NYC), all airports for that city are considered the same.  The returned itineraries can be into any airport servicing a specified city or specified cities.  Using the the change symbol (@) after the city code considers flights to all airports defined by the city code specified.  If an airport code is specified in the entry (e.g., JFK) that airport code is used for departure and arrival.

It is possible, when selecting flights for the lowest fare, for a double connection flight to be selected over a direct flight. In order to determine the best possible flight for the lowest fare, the continuation entry must be used so all available flights are considers.

  • One alternate for each unique origin/destination combination.

  • If the price is the same for any two itinerary solutions, the itineraries are displayed randomly.

From the initial display, if an alternate entry (e.g., 4PLI*F1) is selected or a book entry (4PLIB1) is made, use the 4PLI*ZONE entry to return to the initial Flex Airports display.

Flex Weekend

Flex Weekend is applicable to enrolled Tier 2 and Tier 3 Power Shopper subscribers, for travel in the 50 United States, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Canada.  Power Shopper's Flex Weekend provides expanded shopping solutions for weekend combinations.

  • Specific departure date (DDMMM) is used to identify the desired month. The actual date is ignored. A return date is not permitted in the entry.

  • When a weekend falls between two months, the request should be made using the beginning of that weekend. For example:

July/August 2004 - The weekend of July 29-31 displays when requesting Flex Weekend for July, but is not included if the request is made for August.

Sun       Mon       Tue        Wed       Thu        Fri        Sat
    July                                                                29         30         31
    Aug          1           2            3

  • If the Flex Weekend entry is made for the current month and no more weekends are left, an error message displays.

  • Flex Weekend is not combinable with other Flex Date options or the Flex Airport option.

  • Flex Weekend is only offered for simple round trips.

  • This Power Shopper option returns the lowest possible itinerary for each date combination for the specified month.

  • The pricing solutions display in chronological order, from the lowest pricing solution to the highest price solution.

  • It is possible for a double connection to have a lower price than a direct flight selection. To determine the best possible flight for the lowest fare, the continuation entry should be used so all possible available flights are considered.

  • A premium option (#/FWKD*P) is offered to Tier 3 subscribers, where up to 100 pricing solutions, including a combination of dates, are returned in the initial response.
